Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the issue of unemployment in India, raising serious concerns about the government’s job policies. On Friday, Rahul shared three major questions on social media, especially criticising the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) scheme, which was announced ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
According to Rahul, the ELI scheme promised employment for India’s youth but remains undefined and inactive. He claimed that the ₹10,000 crore allocated for this initiative has been returned to the treasury without any proper plan or implementation.
“PM Modi announced the ELI scheme with great hype, but it’s been a year, and the government hasn’t even defined the plan. This proves how serious the government is about tackling unemployment,” Rahul said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Rahul Gandhi slams pro-corporate job policies
Rahul further said that job creation in India can’t happen by only favouring large corporations and ignoring MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) and traditional skills. He urged for more focus on local businesses and fair markets, which can provide real opportunities for the youth.
“You can’t create jobs by promoting cronies, ignoring local production, and replacing skill-based industries with just assembly lines,” Rahul added.
He proposed a new approach focused on:
- Investing in MSMEs
- Supporting local production networks
- Providing skill development to youth
- Creating fair market competition
Rahul questioned the PM directly:
“Where has the ₹10,000 crore ELI scheme disappeared? Are unemployed youth no longer your priority?”
BJP hits back: ‘Misinformation and drama’
The BJP was quick to respond, accusing Rahul Gandhi of spreading misinformation. Amit Malviya, the BJP’s IT cell head, said Rahul is either misinformed or trying to confuse Indian youth deliberately.
Malviya presented the Modi government’s achievements:
- 17.19 crore jobs created from 2014 to 2024
- Youth unemployment reduced from 17.8% (2017–18) to 10.2% (2024)
- Employability rate improved from 34% in 2013 to 55% in 2024
He also mentioned the PM Internship Scheme, launched as part of the ELI programme, which has already attracted 3.9 lakh applicants.
“While Modi delivers real results, Rahul repeats old slogans. Congress has a history of scams and broken promises,” Malviya said.
Congress’ ‘Naukri Do’ Campaign in Bihar
To keep pressure on the BJP, Congress also launched the ‘Palayan Roko, Naukri Do’ Yatra in Bihar last month. The campaign highlights the mass migration of youth due to unemployment in the state and criticises the BJP government for its lack of long-term solutions.
Final Thoughts
The Rahul Gandhi vs BJP face-off over employment issues reflects the rising tension ahead of the next elections. While the Congress party is targeting the government’s job promises, the BJP is defending its track record with numbers and ongoing schemes.
This political clash once again brings the focus back to what truly matters for Indian voters — real jobs, real growth, and a future for India’s youth.
